If you or a loved one has been a victim of a violent crime in Rhode Island, the Crime Victim Compensation Program (CVCP) may be able to help.

While no amount of money can erase the impact of a violent crime, the CVCP provides up to $25,000 in reimbursement for expenses related to violent crime including medical expenses, relocation expenses, loss of earning, and funeral expenses.

To be eligible to participate in Rhode Island's CVCP, victims of violent crime must file a police report within 15 days of the alleged crime and file a claim with CVCP no later than 3 years after the crime.

To submit an online application, you must first create an account using the link at the top right of this page. You will need to provide CVCP with:

  • Contact information for the person making the claim, as well as contact information for the victim (if different)
  • Information about the crime, including: date, location, agency that the crime was reported to, and police report number
